Yes. The Sunnyside Academy is a licensed childcare facility through the State of New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD). The facility is licensed under our legal business name, The Sunnyside Daycare LLC, DBA The Sunnyside Academy.
The Sunnyside Academy is currently a New Mexico FOCUS 3-Star program and is actively working toward higher FOCUS quality levels. We are committed to continued program improvement, educator development, and providing high-quality early childhood education.
The Sunnyside Academy is licensed to serve children from 6 weeks through 12 years of age. Our primary programs currently serve infants, toddlers, preschool-age children, and New Mexico PreK students. School-age programming may be offered based on program availability.
Our educators meet the training and qualification requirements established by New Mexico ECECD for their positions. Many of our educators have also completed or are actively pursuing additional early childhood education, certifications, college coursework, and professional development.
We believe strong early childhood programs require supported educators, and continuing education and professional growth are encouraged at The Sunnyside Academy.
New Mexico currently provides Universal Child Care, making state-funded childcare available to New Mexico families regardless of income. Because of this program, most families may qualify to have their childcare tuition covered through the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD).
The Sunnyside Academy accepts New Mexico Child Care Assistance contracts and encourages all families, including families relocating to New Mexico, to apply for the program.
At this time, we are not enrolling new families under traditional private-pay tuition rates because families may qualify for state-funded childcare. Eligibility and enrollment with The Sunnyside Academy remain subject to ECECD requirements and classroom availability.
Yes. Cameras are located throughout our classrooms and common areas and are monitored by administration. For the privacy and safety of all children in our care, camera footage is not available for remote parent viewing.
Yes. We use Procare to help families stay connected with their child's classroom. Families can receive updates about their child's day and communicate with teachers and administration through the app.
The Sunnyside Academy maintains several security and privacy measures designed to protect the children in our care. Exterior doors remain locked during operating hours, access to the building is controlled, security cameras are located throughout classrooms and common areas, and authorized pickup information is maintained for every child.
As part of our current safety and privacy procedures, daily drop-off and pickup take place at our designated entrance, where Sunnyside staff personally receive children from and return children to their authorized adults. This helps us limit unnecessary traffic through classrooms, protect the privacy of all enrolled children and families, and maintain a calm and secure learning environment.
We value family involvement and welcome opportunities for families to visit, participate in scheduled activities, meet with teachers and administration, and be part of their child's experience at Sunnyside. Our controlled-access procedures are not intended to separate families from our program, but to ensure that everyone entering the facility is accounted for and that the privacy and safety of every child remain our priority.
The Sunnyside Academy is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 5:45 PM. We are closed on weekends and designated holidays and closure days.
Families interested in The Sunnyside Academy may submit a waitlist application at any time. Joining the waitlist allows us to contact you when an appropriate classroom opening becomes available for your child.
Waitlist placement does not guarantee enrollment or a specific start date, as openings depend on classroom availability, age group, and current enrollment.
Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack are provided for children in attendance as part of our daily program. Meals are planned in accordance with CACFP requirements and appropriate meal patterns for the children we serve.
Families should notify us of any food allergies, dietary restrictions, or special dietary needs during enrollment so we can determine appropriate accommodations.
The Sunnyside Academy uses developmentally appropriate curriculum and learning experiences designed to support the whole child. Our classrooms provide intentional opportunities for language and literacy, early math and science, social emotional development, physical development, independence, problem solving, and purposeful play.
Our educators use Teaching Strategies resources to support lesson planning, classroom experiences, and individualized learning based on children's developmental needs.
Children are not required to be fully toilet trained to begin attending The Sunnyside Academy. However, some of our classrooms are designed for children who have reached greater toileting independence and have direct access to classroom restroom facilities.
We strongly encourage families to actively work with their child on toilet learning as they become developmentally ready. A child's toileting needs may be considered when determining classroom placement or readiness to transition to the next classroom, particularly when the physical layout of the classroom does not allow staff to safely and appropriately accommodate regular diapering or toileting assistance.
Our staff will communicate with families as children approach classroom transitions so we can work together to support their progress and determine the most appropriate placement.
When an appropriate classroom opening becomes available, we contact families from our waitlist based on the space available and the age and program needs of the child.
Because enrollment can change throughout the year, openings may become available unexpectedly. Families are encouraged to keep their contact information current while remaining on our waitlist.
Yes. We understand how important it is for families to feel comfortable with the environment where their child will spend their day.
Tours and visits are arranged in advance so that a member of our team is available to assist you while we continue maintaining classroom routines, supervision, safety, and the privacy of the children currently in our care.
